✈️ What It’s Really Like on an MSC Cruise – A Travel Agent’s Review

🚢 Thinking of booking an MSC cruise but not sure what to expect?
I’ve just experienced one first-hand — here’s my honest, no-filter review to help you decide.

🌍 My First MSC Fam Trip Experience

When I was offered the opportunity to go on my very first fam trip onboard MSC Seaview, I couldn’t wait!

Although I’ve been on several cruises before, this was my first time experiencing one as a travel professional, viewing everything from a client’s perspective.

I wanted to answer the questions I’m asked all the time:
What are the cabins really like? Is the food good? Is there enough to do? Who is it best for?

Here’s my honest review to help you decide if an MSC cruise is right for you.

🚢 Cruise Overview

  • Ship: MSC Seaview
  • Duration: 4 nights
  • Departure: Genoa

🛏️ Accommodation

Cabin type: Balcony

Space & comfort:
The cabin was a good size with a settee, twin beds, desk/vanity unit, TV and great mirrors.

Storage:
Bedside tables, wardrobe with hanging space, 3 large drawers, shelves and a safe inside. Also had a small fridge.

Bathroom:
Quite small but not too tiny. Shower great with shower gel & shampoo included. Sink with a cupboard under and shelves by a good-sized mirror.

Balcony:
Small but enough space for 2 chairs and a small table.

👉 Ideal for couples or friends sharing, with enough storage and comfort for a short cruise.

“I was sharing with someone I hadn’t met before, and it still felt comfortable with enough space for both of us.”

🍽️ Food & Drink

Buffet Restaurants

There were two buffet restaurants onboard:

  • Marketplace (Deck 8) with an outdoor seating area
  • Ocean Point Buffet (Deck 16)

There was plenty of choice at all meal times, although it could get a bit busy. The pizza was amazing, and late-night snacks were available until 2am!

Main Dining Rooms

  • Golden Sand Restaurant (Deck 5)
  • Silver Dolphin Restaurant (Deck 6)

Breakfast in the main dining room was a highlight — much more relaxed than the buffet, with great service and plenty of choice.

Dinner service was also excellent, with attentive staff and a varied menu including dishes such as creamy salmon rillettes, veal osso bucco and classic desserts.

👉 Portions were smaller but ideal, especially with food available throughout the day.

Buffet vs Dining Room

For me, the main dining room wins for atmosphere and service — but the buffet is perfect for convenience.

Drinks Packages

Alcoholic drinks are capped at 15 per day, which is more than enough for most guests.

Includes:

  • Cocktails & champagne
  • Soft drinks (unlimited)
  • Wide variety of beverages

👉 Great value when booked in advance.

Speciality Restaurants

  • Butcher’s Cut (Steakhouse)
  • Ocean Cay (Seafood)
  • Sushi & Pan Asian
  • L’Atelier Bistrot
  • Teppanyaki
  • HOLA! Tacos & Cantina

👉 I tried Teppanyaki and Hola — both were fantastic!
Great atmosphere, amazing food, and excellent value.

🎭 Entertainment & Atmosphere

  • Shows: Professional and entertaining (book via MSC for Me app)
  • Live music: Fantastic variety across the ship
  • Theme nights: 60s/70s/80s + White Night (great fun!)
  • Activities: Fitness classes, quizzes, arcade, F1 simulator, zip line

👉 Perfect for those who enjoy a lively, fun atmosphere both day and night.

🏊‍♀️ Facilities

Pools

  • Panorama Pool (main activity pool)
  • Jungle Pool (indoor with retractable roof)
  • Sunset Beach Pool (quieter option)
  • Kids water park (Forest Aquaventure)

👉 Top tip: get sunbeds early on sea days!

Spa & Gym

  • Aurea Spa (treatments, thermal area, salon)
  • Fully equipped gym with sea views

👉 Book spa treatments and classes early.

For Families

Dedicated kids clubs for multiple age groups, plus lots of activities throughout the ship.

💎 The MSC Yacht Club – The Luxury Experience at Sea

What is it?
A “ship within a ship” offering a more exclusive, luxury experience.

Includes:

  • 24/7 Butler & Concierge
  • Private lounge, restaurant, sundeck & pool
  • Premium drinks package
  • Unlimited Wi-Fi
  • Thermal suite access

👉 My thoughts:
While the physical space is more understated than expected, the real value is in the service, exclusivity, and quieter atmosphere.

👉 Ideal for those wanting a more relaxed, premium experience with access to the full ship.

Enjoyed a delicious seafood paella before heading back to the ship.

Marseille

A real highlight!

  • Walking tour of La Panier district
  • Road train to Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde
  • Incredible panoramic views
  • Beautiful marina lunch

👉 A fantastic mix of culture, scenery and food — I’d definitely return!
